„Powstające perturbacje na przemian kurczą i rozciągają orbitę planety i pierwociny życia, jeśli powstaną, ulegają zniszczeniu przez promienisty żar bądź lodowate zimno. Zmiany te zachodzą w okresie milionów lat, więc – wedle skali astronomicznej czy biologicznej (bo ewolucja wymaga setek milionów, jeśli nie miliarda lat) – w czasie bardzo krótkim.”[1]

W tym rozsypanym na drobne fragmenty świecie, w którym indywidualne historie zaczynają się i trwają tylko w teraźniejszości, coraz trudniej wspominać i poszukiwać znamion całości. Właściwie to wewnętrznie sprzeczne i nieznośnie bezowocne. Każda próba wyjścia poza krótką perspektywę jednego życia ściągana jest w dół za pomocą ciężaru wątpliwości i zasupłanych wątków – możliwych reinterpretacji i zapożyczeń. Symulakry wypełniają albumy, wspomnienia, słowa pozostają piętrowymi metaforami, a pewność faktów, sprowadza się do medialności i krótkiej daty przydatności.

W tym świecie, w którym grawitacja jeszcze obowiązuje, nawet beton, kamień i stal nie mogą być pewne swojej trwałości. Budowle padają, retuszowane z panoram, błyskawicznie w ich miejsca powstają nowe; pomniki są powalane, przenoszone a czasem, zakrywane lub przerabiane. Przy całej elastyczności i rozciągłości tej nowej rzeczywistości, potrafi ona wpływać zupełnie zdecydowanie i agresywnie na jeszcze nie dawno solidne obiekty tworzone ludzkimi rękoma.

Przestrzeń, która tak dynamicznie ulega przekształceniu, już nawet tam, gdzie pierwotnie zielona, dawno nie nosi nazwy naturalnej. Już od dawna należy do człowieka. Cały arsenał narzędzi technicznych, który wspiera te transformacje jedynie afirmuje niczym dawna kaźń, to dominium. Jest ono o tyle szczególne w swojej skali, że nie sposób wydobyć się poza nie. Ma charakter totalny, choć z oświeceniowych ideałów: kontroli, poznania i udoskonalania, wydaje się, że zostało niewiele lub raczej tyle, na ile panosząca się entropia pozwala. Nawet panoptyczna wizja ślepnie na jedno oko.

Ta hiperprzestrzeń wymaga oczywiście jakiegoś dookreślenia na poziomie nazwy – można oczywiście powiedzieć, że jest to ludzka rzeczywistość. Jednakże brakuje w tym określeniu dynamiki, która tak determinuje dzisiejsze rozsypanie i niepokoje, która pozwala spojrzeć na rosnącą entropię jako taką, która ma swoje źródło. Chodziłoby więc o siłę, która dotyka wszystkich i wszystkiego. Może nią być polityka – rozumiana szeroko jako zespół działań, które organizują życie człowieka, zamykają je w siatce przecinających się interesów i pozwalają abstrahować pojedyncze bycie do skali masy i uogólnień. U jej podłoża, jej skali i oblepiającej wszystko co ludzkie sile, kryje się podstawowy mechanizm działania człowieka – konieczność przetrwania poprzez organizowanie się w grupy, by zwiększyć szansę przeżycia.

Nie jest to jednak przestrzeń jednolita, w pełni zaplanowana i rozwijana wzorcowo. W wielu miejscach, wydaje się pękać, budować na nowo, załamywać w swoich krzywiznach. Dla Agaty Madejskiej, ten właśnie żywy ocean, jest obiektem nieustających artystycznych badań. Wspomniane pęknięcia, szczeliny i fluktuacje, interesują ją najbardziej. To właśnie one są symetrycznie zestawiane ze wszystkimi niepokojami, które targają współczesnością. Doskonałym przykładem tej praktyki jest cykl bez tytułu, na który składa się seria abstrakcyjnych wielkoformatowych fotografii przedstawiających niemal organiczne, komórkowe czarno-białe wzory plam. Ten pierwszy odbiór mówi właśnie o magmie, trudności z orientacją wdzisiaj i wteraz[2]. Dopiero wraz z bliższym spojrzeniem, chwilą na uspokojenie wzroku z tej magmy zaczynają wyłaniać się kształty, układy i detale. Te czarno-białe kropki nabierają wartości, pojawiają się w nich muszelki, zaplecione w kamieniu prehistoryczne organizmy. Jeszcze jedna chwila i poszczególne nazwy prac: DeBeers (2017), London Stock Exchange (2017), The Economist (2015), zaczynają dopowiadać dalszy fragment historii. Te minimalistyczne prace, są kolażami zdjęć wykonywanych wapieniom, z których powstały budynki takich instytucji jak londyńska giełda czy niegdyś najpotężniejsza firma handlująca diamentami. Każda z odbitek powstaje jako unikatowy zapis – montaż poszczególnych ujęć, odwzorowując w ten sposób rozbitą w czasie modalność zawartą w kamiennych pokładach.

Madejska z pełną świadomością wybrała obiekty, które w politycznej przestrzeni stanowią punkty przecięcia, dialektyczne obszary władzy[3]. Mapuje je jednakże poniżej poziomu horyzontu bieżącej debaty publicznej. W tym archeologicznym spojrzeniu, bo prowadzącym do fundamentów pyta o ich trwałość. Widoczne skamieliny, które pod naporem czasu uległy kolejnym przetworzeniom, stały się między innymi materiałem do budowy ludzkich instytucji władzy. Wraz z tą ekspozycją, ujawnia się promieniujące na całość dorobku Madejskiej nastawienie do badanej przestrzeni i jej porządku. Odziera je z patosu wielkości i brawurowego, pooświeceniowiego wyzwania rzuconego nieznanej przyszłości. Madejska zakłada, że przestrzeń, którą obserwuje od środka, będzie też ulegać zmianom i ścieraniu na drobiny. Z tego też powodu pewność, która towarzyszy architekturze władzy też narażona jest na erozję. Nawet te instytucje muszą pamiętać, że ufundowane są na śmierci poprzedników.
