THEIR NAMES WILL LIVE FOREVER

[translated from Polish]

Below there is the following inscription on a red sandstone plaque:

HANNOVER WAR CEMENTARY

1939–1945

On both sides of the plaque, there are two smaller boards with inscriptions in English and German:

THE AREA OF THIS CEMETERY WAS DESIGNATED BY THE GERMAN SOCIETY AS A PLACE OF HONOUR AND ETERNAL REST FOR SEAMEN, SOLDIERS AND AIRMEN KILLED DURING THE WAR

[translated from Polish]

To the left of the entrance under a roofing there is a recess with a commemorative book placed behind an iron door. You can record your visit there and write comments. There is also a description in English, containing a plan of the cemetery and an alphabetical list of fallen soldiers. Unfortunately, the list contains only the names of citizens of the United Kingdom. On the right side of the entrance, also under a roofing, there is a board with information in English and German:

There are 2,451 fallen soldiers buried at this military cemetery, mostly airmen, including: 1,904 citizens of England, 333 of Canada, 142 of Australia, 45 of New Zealand, 5 of South Africa, 9 of India, 3 of East Africa, 1 of Norway and 9 of Poland.
