Jażdżewski, Ludwik Józef Walenty (1862 Ludwig Joseph Valentin Jażdżewski, Ludwig von Jazdzewski), 1873-1911 member of the 2nd Chamber of the Prussian Landtag, 1872-74, 1878-87, 1890-98 member of the Reichstag of the German Empire. *10.2.1838 Poznan, †23.1.1911 Berlin, Theologist, priest, professor, apostolic envoy. After passing his A-levels at the Maria-Magdalena grammar school in Poznan he attended theological colleges in Poznan and Gniezno. Subsequently he studied Catholic Theology in Munich, where he was made a Doctor of Theology in 1881. He travelled extensively throughout the whole of Europe. He was ordained as a priest in Gniezno on 25th May 1861. In 1861 he became a teacher of religion at the Ursulinenstift in Poznan and the grammar school in Krotoschin/Krotoszyn. In 1862 he was made a dean at St John’s Cathedral /Archikatedra św. Jana Chrzciciela in Warsaw, and Professor of Exegesis at the Chrześcijańska Akademia Teologiczna w Warszawie/Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw and at the Metropolitan Seminary there. At the end of 1863 he was relieved of all his offices in Warsaw. From 1864 onwards he was a member of the Historic and Literary Society in Paris. Between 1864 and 65 he was the apostolic envoy to England. This was followed by a lengthy stay in Rome. From June 1866 onwards he was the Provost of Zduny. In October 1872, in July 1878, in October 1881, in October 1884, in February 1890 and in June 1893 he was elected as a member of the Polish parliamentary group in the German Reichstag for the constituency of Krotoschin with majorities between 69.2% and 77.57%. He sat on select committees for the Law on Court Constitution and the Reich budget. In 1890 he was appointed Provost of the Collegiate Foundation in Schroda/Środa Wielkopolska. “Participated fully in the debates of the Prussian Parliament, on political rights of Polish citizens and recent church laws.” (Deutscher Parlaments-Almanach 1878) Own writings: Zeno Veronensis episcopus.
