Hamburg-Harburg

On the 1st of August 2009, an information board was ceremonially unveiled, set up on the edge of the plot. The plaque with a text in Polish and German was made as part of a project of students from a school in Harburg cooperating with Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V. and the cemetery management. The authors of the text are students Linus Best, Justus Dienstbier and Arian Mus, who got interested in the project proposed by Volksbund to expand and supplement the knowledge about the graves of soldiers at the local cemetery. During the collection and preparation of materials for the project, the students discovered that in Germany, the knowledge about the Warsaw Uprising was very limited. The Warsaw Uprising is often confused with the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943, which is known from the school curriculum and from the knowledge about the extermination of Jews during the Second World War. During the project, the students visited Warsaw and the Warsaw Uprising Museum.
