Wacław Szelągowski

* 5.6.1911

† 12.4.1945 Guderhandviertel, shot by a German guard

This officer fought in the 158th platoon of the 1st Insurgent Company. When he was taken prisoner, he was registered as a prisoner of war in Stalag X B Sandbostel, which was determined by an annotation on the list of war graves. In the camp, he was given the number 224834, which made it possible to find his name in the Archives of the Warsaw Uprising Museum in Warsaw. We do not know how Szelagowski got into the area of Stade. It is possible that he belonged to a work unit, but it is also possible that at the end of the war he participated in an evacuation march to Lübeck, which he never reached. The investigation to establish his identity was conducted by Michael Quelle, a spokesperson for the district anti-fascist union. A plaque bearing the first name and the surname of the deceased is to be placed on the grave in 2020.
