The majority of the barracks were occupied by Russian prisoners of war, followed by groups of internees of Polish, Russian and Yugoslavian origin. Many prisoners died as a result of merciless exploitation, terrible camp conditions and diseases. At the end of the war the number of victims was 1,192. Further 216 people died in the period until 1949, i.e. until the former camp was closed. In the 1950s, the graves from the town area were moved to the cemetery at Föhrenweg, where metal plaques with the names of 5,045 buried people, including 3,373 Russians - men, women and children - were placed. Nearly 500 deceased Russian soldiers remain anonymous.
