Ehra-Lessien
Shortly after the end of the war, Poles from nearby towns started to settle in the barracks on the former military training ground. In 1948, thanks to the consent of the occupying authorities, a Polish housing estate was established, which was unofficially called Plac [the Square]. No information about the number and origin of the residents of the estate has been preserved, but its size can be estimated by the existence of a Polish primary school and a hospital. The camp was closed down in 1956, and the training ground was taken over by the Bundeswehr established at that time.
The Polish war plot at the cemetery in its present form was created after the war, most probably in the place of the graves of Polish war victims who died before May 8, 1945. The plot and its vicinity contain graves without plates or tombstones. It can be assumed that there are also Polish men and women buried there, who died before the war ended. The data of the deceased were written down from the tombstones, preserving the original spelling:
