Skowroński, Aleksander
Skowroński, Aleksander (Alexander Skowronski), 1907 member of the Reichstag of the German Empire. *9.2.1863 Laurahütte/Huta Laura (today Siemianowice Śląskie), †4.10.1934 Mikołów/Nikolai, priest, son of a miner. From 1876 to 1885 he attended the St. Matthias grammar school in Breslau, and from 1885 to 1888 he studied Catholic Theology at the University of Breslau. From 1886 to 1887 he was a one-year volunteer in the 9th company of the 2nd Silesian Grenadier Regiment Nr. 11 in Breslau, ending with the rank of NCO. In 1889 he was ordained a priest in Breslau. From 1889 to 1893, he was a chaplain and teacher of religion in Königshütte/Chorzów; subsequently in Lonschnik/Łącznik, Altzülz/Solec and Schimischow/Szymiszów. Starting in 1897 he was the parish priest in Ellguth/Ligota Bialska near Zülz/Biała. He was a co-founder of the Polish Spelling Book Association, the Polskie Towarzystwo Ludowej/Polish People’s Union and Chair of the Towarzystwo Pomocy Naukowej/Society for Scientific Support in Breslau. 1907 he was elected as a member of the Polish parliamentary group in the German Reichstag for the constituency of Pleß-Rybnik/Pszczyna-Rybnik with a majority of 65.5%. 1918: member of the Naczelna Rada Ludowa/National Peoples Council. 1920, deacon. After a failed assassination attempt on his life he moved to the Polish sector of Silesia. From 1922 onwards he was the parish priest in Mikołów. 1926: Archdeacon of the diocese of Kattowice, 1930 Monsignore, 1931 Provost of the Cathedral Chapter of Kattowice.
