Czachórski, Władysław (Ladislaus von Czachorski), Polish painter, member of the “Munich School”. 1868: studies at the Art Academy in Dresden, 1869-73 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. From 1879 until his death he runs a workshop in Munich. *22.9.1850 Lublin, †13.1.1911 Munich. 1866/67: studies in the Warsaw drawing class/Klasa Rysunkowa under Rafał Hadziewicz (1803-1886), 1868 at the Dresden Art Academy. On the 12.10.1869 he enrols in the nature class at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, studies under Hermann Anschütz (1802-1880), Carl Theodor (Karl) von Piloty (1826-1886) and Sandór (Alexander von) Wagner (1838-1919). From 1.5.1873, his brother Stanisław Czachórski (*1854 Lublin) studies in the antiquity class at the Munich Academy, and later works as an architect. 1874-77: he undertakes study trips to Italy and France. From 1879 he runs his own workshop in Munich. He is made an Honorary Professor at the Munich Art Academy and member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin. Award: 1893 the Bavarian Order of Michael. Czachórski paints scenes from books, history and plays (Shakespeare), still lifes and portraits. His greatest successes are his paintings of naturalist female figures in 18th century costumes in richly furnished, highly detailed interiors. He is a master at reproducing materials, flowers and jewellery, and has a preference for luxury and glamour. His painting “Hamlet and the Actors” (1875) is awarded a gold medal at the 1879 International Art Exhibition in Munich. His works can be found in the national museums in Danzig, Cracow, Posen/Poznań and Warsaw, as well as in other Polish museums, in the Braith-Mali-Museum in Biberach, in the Kunsthalle Bremen and in the National Gallery in Lviv.
